BatFi overview

Manage and extend the life of your Mac’s battery with BatFi, a powerful yet simple battery management software designed exclusively for macOS. BatFi keeps a close eye on your battery’s percentage and charging state, offering intelligent control to ensure optimal battery performance and longevity.

Features:
  • Automatic Charging Inhibition - BatFi launches with your system and actively monitors your battery percentage. Once the charging state reaches a threshold (set by you or defaulting to 80%), the app automatically inhibits further charging when your computer is connected to an AC adapter. By avoiding full charges, BatFi helps extend your battery’s performance over the long term.
  • Convenient 100% Charge Option - Need maximum battery life for a specific task? BatFi provides a dedicated command in the menu accessible from the status bar icon. With a single click, you can charge your battery to 100% for those times when you require extra power.
  • Set It and Forget It - BatFi takes care of your battery management effortlessly. Once you’ve configured your preferred settings, the app works seamlessly in the background, requiring no further intervention. Simply set it up and let BatFi handle the rest.
  • Informative Notifications - Stay informed about changes in your charging mode through BatFi’s notifications. Receive alerts when your charging state transitions and get instant access to battery details by clicking on the status item icon. View essential information like battery percentage, estimated time remaining, battery cycle count, battery temperature, power source status, and overall battery health.
  • Customizable Status Icon - BatFi’s status icon is both functional and visually appealing. Customize the icon to your liking and enjoy the battery symbol with percentage and charging status displayed elegantly. Witness super cool animations as the state changes, adding a touch of excitement to your battery monitoring experience.

BatFi for business or commercial use.

What's new in version 4.0.0

  • Works on macOS 27. Apple changed the way charging is controlled and the mechanism BatFi has always relied on is no longer there, so BatFi now uses the one the new firmware provides.
  • BatFi now works out what it can do by asking your Mac's firmware directly, instead of guessing from the macOS version. It adapts to what your particular Mac actually supports, and anything it can't do is hidden rather than left sitting in Settings doing nothing.
  • Redesigned Automation. The rule editor and the location picker have been rebuilt, with a clearer layout, address search that works properly, and a map that shows the area actually being watched.
  • Automation location rules now use geofencing instead of following your location continuously. It's easier on the battery, and BatFi is no longer tracking you around to work out whether a rule applies.
  • The charge limit now goes up to 100%, instead of stopping at 90%.
  • Settings now shows which charging mechanism your Mac uses and its firmware version, grouped into a card you can select and paste straight into a bug report.
  • Fixed: BatFi could get stuck showing an empty battery, or sit on “Initializing” with nothing to explain it, and stop managing charging altogether — relaunching made no difference. It now notices a helper that has stopped answering and re-registers it, retrying a few times instead of giving up after one go.
  • Fixed: “Run on Battery” didn't actually discharge on the new firmware. Asking for 0% came back applied as 80%, so BatFi read the battery as already below the limit and switched the override off again behind your back. It now discharges to the limit you asked for.
  • Fixed: location rules could never work, because BatFi was missing the entry macOS requires before it will even offer the location prompt — nothing happened when you tried to grant access, with no prompt and no error. Ticking “At a location” now asks.
  • Fixed: in the location picker, the address suggestions covered the search field instead of dropping below it.
  • The two rule conditions now read “At a location” and “At certain times”. Starting both with “Only” made them look like an either/or; they're independent, and a rule with both set applies when both match.
  • Fixed: the last onboarding step clipped the launch-at-login line mid-word, and cut off the sentence at the bottom of the pane.
  • Some of the new text is English-only in this beta.
  • Fixed: a “Run on Battery” override could turn itself off on its own a couple of minutes after the charger was disconnected. It now stays active until you turn it off.
  • New: Automation — automatically change your charge limit based on when and where you are. Create rules in the new Automation settings pane, each with its own charge limit and an optional schedule (one-off or recurring) and/or location.
  • The menu now shows the currently active automation rule, so you always know what's affecting charging.
  • Adds support for macOS 26.4 and newer.
  • Fixed menu items not displaying on macOS 15.7.4 when enabled in Settings.
  • Improved menu bar icon positioning for consistent placement on first launch.
  • Fixed menu content being clipped or incorrectly sized on macOS 26.
  • Improved layout of the power distribution diagram in the menu.
  • Fixed memory leaks in background observation tasks for improved stability.
  • Ukrainian localization
  • Performance improvements
  • Add support for upcoming macOS 15.7 and macOS 26 Tahoe (without UI changes though)
  • Add option to remove the license
  • Bugfixes
  • Requires macOS 15
  • Removes the requirement to provide an email during app activation.
  • New status icon settings, including a static icon

  • Czech localization
  • Bug fixes
  • Japanese localization updated
  • Improve the formatting of the “Time Left” label in the status bar
  • Add an option to disable sleep during discharging to allow for discharging in clamshell mode.
  • The app will automatically turn off “Charge to 100%” when the charger has been disconnected for a certain period of time.
  • Update localizations.
  • Bug fixes
  • Add options to toggle high/low power mode using the menu and global hotkeys
  • Add an option to hide the status bar icon.
  • Update localizations.
  • Bug fixes
  • The app detects if it's running on a notebook
  • Localization improvements
  • macOS 15 removed the System 80% Charging Limit option. The keyword here is “system.” An option in BatFi, disabled by default, automatically turned on the system charging limit when the Mac was about to go to sleep. It was useful when the Mac was charging, and the battery state was still below the given limit, and the user put it to sleep. This option would turn on the system charging limit, which would charge the computer to 80% and then stop—even while in sleep mode, reliably. Obviously, it wasn’t useful at all if the user had a limit set to anything other than 80%. Anyone using this version of macOS, or those who updated it on a separate volume, will lose this functionality, even when running macOS 13 or 14. The update hides the toggle switch in the app’s settings for macOS 15 users
  • The update introduces options to display the last time the battery was discharged and fully charged
  • A new option provides a notification about battery calibration when the battery hasn’t been discharged for over a month
  • The status icon is now more customizable, with a new option to display the battery percentage next to it
  • macOS 15 Beta 5 removed the System charging limit option. Anyone using this macOS version, or even those who updated it on a separate volume, will lose this functionality, even on macOS 13 or 14. Unfortunately, this change breaks BatFi, and the update silently ignores errors caused by this issue. If you haven’t updated macOS, everything will work as before. In the meantime, I will look for a workaround if one exists.
  • Japanese, Turkish and German localization updated
  • Increases helper connection timeout from 5 seconds to 30 seconds to decrease the chance of showing the “Houston, we have a problem” notification.
  • Fixes status item drawing issue
  • Turkish localization added
  • Japanese and Italian localization updated
  • The app automatically check for updates
  • The system charge limit or inhibit charging on sleep won't be invoked if a temporary charging limit is set.

  • The minimum charging limit is now lowered to 50%
  • Enhanced menu customizability
  • Adjustable "Low Battery" notification threshold
  • New hotkeys pane in settings

Version 2 installation went fine and it recognised my licence from V1 (i.e. it doesn't appear to be a paid upgrade). Not noticing any difference in how it runs (which is good, as it's always been stable for me), but there are a few extra options in the settings.

I own the 'Pro' versions of both this and AlDente (for only $10 each, I'm more than happy to support the developers). Even though AlDente has more features (and I bought it first), I now use BatFi for the simple reason that I much prefer the UI.
